How to install eSIM on Android devices

  • Updated

First, check that your Android device is compatible with eSIMs and is not locked by any specific carrier.

To check compatibility, go to phone Settings > Connections > SIM Manager > if the option Add eSIM is available, then your device supports eSIMs.

For Google Pixel devices, open Settings app > Network & Internet > tap plus (+) sign next to SIMs > if you open the screen "Connect to mobile network" and you see "Download a SIM instead", then your device supports eSIMS.

For other Android devices, dial *#06# and press Call. If you can view the eSIM unique identification number (EID), then your device supports eSIMs.

To ensure your device is unlocked, please check your device’s contract or call your carrier to verify. Android does not have an option to check SIM restrictions in the Settings app.

Reminders:

  1. Ensure you have strong internet connection prior to installation. A strong WiFi network or good 4G connection is recommended.
  2. Each eSIM can only be activated once. The QR code / activation code will no longer be accessible once activation has started on a device.
  3. Data roaming must be enabled for the eSIM to work.
  4. Validity time: You can activate the eSIM before heading to any of the supported countries, but its validity time won't begin until you turn it on within one of those countries.

Installation using QR code
