First, check that your Apple device is compatible with eSIMs and is not locked by any specific carrier.
To check compatibility, open Settings app > General > About > tap Model Number until you view an "AXXXX" combination. Be aware that most iPhones sold in mainland China, Hong Kong or Macao do not support eSIMs at this time.
To ensure your device is unlocked, open Settings app > General > About > scroll down to Carrier Lock. If you see "No SIM restrictions", then your device is unlocked.
Reminders:
- Ensure you have strong internet connection prior to installation. A strong WiFi network or good 4G connection is recommended.
- Each eSIM can only be activated once. The QR code / activation code will no longer be accessible once activation has started on a device.
- Data roaming must be enabled for the eSIM to work.
- Validity time: You can activate the eSIM before heading to any of the supported countries, but its validity time won't begin until you turn it on within one of those countries.
Installation using QR code
1. You may scan the provided eSIM QR code using your phone camera or continue to step 2.
2. Open Settings app > tap Cellular or Mobile Data > tap Add eSIM or Add Cellular plan > select Use QR Code > scan the QR code > tap Continue and wait 10 minutes for eSIM to activate > tap Done when you see "Mobile Plan Setup Complete".
3. You have the option to modify the "eSIM Label" (the name of the eSIM) instead of using the default name
4. You should now see your eSIM in Mobile Data / Cellular Data field.
5. Enable data roaming by going to Settings > Mobile Data / Cellular Data > select desired eSIM > toggle Data Roaming button ON.
Installation using Activation code (copy-paste method)
1. Open Settings app > tap Cellular or Mobile Data > tap Add eSIM or Add Cellular plan > select Use QR Code > select Enter Details Manually > copy and paste Activation codes
- Activation code format: You only need to enter the SM-DP+ address and Activation Code. Leave the Confirmation Code blank.
- Example:
- SM-DP+ address: rsp.truphone.com
- Activation code: JQ-1RA5Y7-157UAZP
- Confirmation code: <leave blank>
- Example:
2. You have the option to modify the "eSIM Label" (the name of the eSIM) instead of using the default name
3. You should now see your eSIM in Mobile Data / Cellular Data field.
4. Enable data roaming by going to Settings > Mobile Data / Cellular Data > select desired eSIM > toggle Data Roaming button ON.
